The not so standard brunch at The Standard Grill, NYC

MalContent:  The Standard Grill @ The Standard Hotel, Meatpacking District, NYC

Have you ever been hungry and in a rush??  This happens to me a lot.  I seem to spend most of my time  hungry and in a rush.  Not necessarily in that order, but you get my point.
Last Saturday, October 20th, 2012, I tried squeezing in an early brunch between a delayed wake up call and a brought forward meeting with a potential buyer.  Hopping across the street from my hotel, The Gansevoort, Meatpacking district, I was promptly turned away by an overexcited maitre d' at Pastis.

What to do, what to do??  My stomach's angry growls, coupled with the somewhat irritatingly fast approaching meeting, and no prior brunch reservation anywhere, (hello this is NYC!! what was I thinking??), led me to the nearby The Standard Grill.  I was relieved!  I would not have to cover up my stomach's embarrassingly loud growls with some nonsensical remark during my meeting!  Thank Heavens!

My business partner and I swiftly ordered, and we seemed to be safely on our way to a swift and yummy brunch.  Or so we thought!  Forty five minutes later we were still staring at Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, the very cute ceramic doggy shaped salt and pepper shakers, but sadly ceramic is not edible.  The waiter kept throwing nervous glances at us.

Following a further ten minute wait and a few very tense 'we need to leave promptly, where is our brunch' type of exchanges, our much anticipated food arrived.

Yummy, my favorite, charcoaled toast with two mini poached eggs and that after an hours wait at a very hefty $US12 + + +...  !!

Bon Appetit!
