Salzburg & Salzach...a divine combination at The Sacher Hotel

Content: The Sacher Hotel, Salzburg, Austria

Okay, I am a bit biased when it comes to the Sacher Hotels, the 'Blaue Bar,' being my favorite spot in the German speaking world, to savory a delicious glass of Prosecco, or two!  Still, following a transatlantic overnight flight, coupled with the prospect of having to drive 500kms to make it in time for a trade fair in Munich, turns even the most ardent fan into a whining, moaning, groaning, jet-lagged mess!
So there I was last weekend, desperately trying to keep my heavy eyelids semi opened and my eyes focused on the road ahead, and somehow, the hundred-odd kilometers left to drive seemed intolaribly long.  Oh, and did I mention I had NO hotel booking in Munich!  This thought made me even more tired!  The little devil sitting on my left shoulder, didn't need much persuading when Salzburg city center, in all its 'map' glory popped up on my GPS.

A night in Salzburg with no hotel booking, versus a night in Munich near the Convention Center, again no booking?  Well, the answer was clear.  A night at the Sacher Hotel in Salzburg, at a competitive price for a five star hotel inclusive of breakfast, was meant to be!

My last thought before drifting off into the land of dreams: 'This was a fantastic idea!'

The room was beautiful, the service exceptional; I was unexpectedly upgraded to a double room and served a beautiful complimentary platter of fruits, delicious chocolates, and the always lovely mini Sacher Torte!

It was only very early the next morning, having rushed to get ready and get driving to Munich on time, that I realized what a truly glorious decision I made by staying the night in Salzburg! My intention was to grab a quick coffee and croissant, and get going. Stepping into the 'Roter Salon' and surveying the beautifully laid out buffet table, put a definite end to my prior plans! Usually, buffets are not my preference, but this was the very best of first class buffets: freshly squeezed orange, grapefruit and carrot juice; fantastic aromatic coffees of any choice; spelt, rye, white or whole wheat breads; organic, home made jams; yogurts of all kinds; organic cereals, Bircher Muesli; all laid out on beautiful pressed table linens, and served in elegant China, all the while looking at the picturesque view of the Salzach river.   I took my time and truly savoured the moment!!  Thank you to the Sacher team for making my otherwise rainy, mundane Saturday morning, exceptionally memorable!

Similar table to the one I had and due to a full iphone memory preventing me from taking a picture, here is a lovely photo courtesy of the Sacher Hotel Salzburg website!
